This hand crafted helmet is a exact replica of how originals used to be in the old days. This helmet is depictured in manuscrips like the manesse codex and the Maciejowski bible.

The great helmet provided more protection than the earlier nasal helmet but it reduced the peripheral vision and it had limited ventilation so generally it was put on just before the fight. A smaller helmet, like a secret of bascinet, was often worn underneath the great helmet.
Similar helmets were found in Germany, The Netherlands, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland and Austria and they were worn by France and England during the Hundred Years? War.

This great helmet is made after several originals that were worn during crusades. Helmets like this were also worn by Knight orders like the Templars and the Hospitallers.

The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, commonly known as the Knights templar or Templars, was a medieval military Christian organisation founded to protect the pilgrims on their way to the holy land. Their headquarters were situated at the temple mount of Jerusalem and although they were not allowed to have worldly possessions, they had extensive estates and farmlands all over Europe.
