This Viking amulet is made after a fibula found in Birka. It is made of tin and has a diameter of approx. 5,5 cm.
During the 8th to 10th century Birka was one of the most important trade centres in Northern Europe. It's favourable location (near modern day Stockholm) was ideal for trade with Norway, Denmark and the Baltic sea regions like Novgorod and even Byzantium. Archaeological excavations revealed more than 3000 Viking burials. The place was famous for it's Rusvik (Russian Viking) culture. Birka was also the place where the ting was hold.
