This Saxon sword is a replica of a 9th century Saxon original. The original was excavated in 1976 in Yorkshire and is nowadays part of the collection of the Yorkshire Museum.

This sword is authentically made of folded steel. The sword has a luxurious finish, it was only used by the richest of the nobility.

It has a length of 85 cm, with a blade of 66 cm and a grip of approx. 15 cm. It weighs approx. 1,4 kg. It is delivered sharp and including a matching luxurious scabbard.

This sword is a Petersen type L.

After the battle of Edington in 878. where the Danish Vikings were defeated by an army of Anglo-Saksons under king Alfred the Great. Both sides had no other choice but to negotiate for peace. The Danish became lord and master in the North of England with their capital in modern day York (Jorvik). This peace was short lived and during the next two centuries the Danish Vikings frequently plundered the Anglo-Saxon coast lines, until the Anglo-Saxon king Aethelstan finally defeated the Danish Vikings and recaptured the Danelaw.

Please note: although the thickness will be the same as a battle-ready sword, the return right and warranty expires when using the blunting service. Maintenance&care
Prevent rust and corrosion by oiling your weapons regularly. Remove rust easily with black sandpaper. Remove burrs with a whetstone. Make sure you have removed all burrs before using a battle-ready weapon, as they can cause injury.
