This helmet is a replica of a Gallic (Celtic) original found in Foret de Rouvrey in Normandy. Helmets like these were mainly worn by Celtic horsemen. The Celts were known throughout the classical world for their cavalry. Helmets like these were far ahead of their time and offered considerably more protection than the Roman coolus or the early gallea helmets. This helmet is provided with a widened edge, which protects the wearer from falling projectiles such as arrows and stones. It has cheek flaps that also partially protect the face, but leave an optimal field of vision. The helmet ends in a tip and can be decorated with horsehair, as was probably the case with the original.
