Originally, such a garment consisted of sturdy textile or leather onto which small, oval plates were riveted, usually visible on the outside. Over time, the construction shifted from many small plates to fewer but larger plates, until the silhouette came closer to an early breastplate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSuch armour was typically worn over a gambeson and chainmail shirt by archers and knights. Compared to a full plate harness, it offered more freedom of movement and was simpler to repair yourself — making it more accessible than a breastplate. In 15th-century France, an archer was required to bring at least a brigandine into battle, while a man-at-arms needed at least a breastplate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis brigandine is made of hemmed, braided suede and leather straps, riveted at each intersection — flexible enough not to restrict your freedom of movement.
