Because only the nobility were permitted to carry two-edged swords, the langes or Grosses Messer emerged: an extended version of the German Bauernwehr and the weapon of the common man. This specimen features a straight, single-edged blade with a false edge at the point.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis replica is modeled after a well-preserved original from the early 16th century from the private collection of Crown Prince Ernst August of Hannover. The forged, S-shaped cross-guard has a large parrying ring. The sturdy tang is riveted to the forged steel pommel and the hardwood grip scales are held in place by seven iron rivet heads. The hand-forged blade of EN45 spring steel is oil-hardened to approximately 48 HRC and features three fullers.
