This type of early pot helm developed from the first half of the 13th century. It evolved from the calotte and provided better protection for the entire head. These helmets were usually worn in combination with a chainmail coif. Helmets of this kind were worn by the European aristocracy and knightly class and are depicted in various manuscripts and on several seals. They remained in use until the late 13th century and were worn during the Crusades as well as many other European conflicts.

The pot helm is a replica of a 13th-century original depicted on an English seal. The seal is now part of the British Museum collection in London.

The helm features an antique (patinated) finish, giving it the appearance of having withstood the test of time. The maximum internal circumference is 68 cm, excluding the helmet liner. The helmet comes with a liner and chin strap. Should you wish to wear additional padded padding, measure your head circumference whilst wearing it. The padded liner already fitted inside the helmet is usually sufficient. To create more space inside the helmet, the liner may be removed.
