Greek spear, Roman pilum and hasta

In the armies of classical Antiquity, spears were a widely used weapon. The Greeks used long spears in the phalanx for thrusting: the doru. In the Roman army, legionaries threw their pilum or javelin to break enemy lines and cause confusion. The pilum often stuck in a shield and could not be quickly removed. The enemy then chose to fight without a shield and was more vulnerable. The hasta was another Roman spear used for thrusting in close combat.

Viking spear, spear head for making your own spear & Cold Steel spear

Among the Vikings, the spear was also a very beloved weapon, more popular than the sword because it was cheaper. The spear consisted of a long wooden shaft and a steel spear head. Discover our beautiful range of Viking spears. Additionally, you can also find separate spear heads and wooden shafts here so you can make your own spear. Germanic spear heads, Viking spear heads, and winged spear heads with hand-forged finish are all available for purchase here. For collectors of razor-sharp spears, we have Cold Steel spears and pole weapons.

Medieval halberd & other pole weapons from the Middle Ages and Renaissance

The halberd is a feared weapon from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Many soldiers fought with this as their primary weapon, these were the halberdiers. The halberd was developed to fight against cavalry and to pierce strong armor. With the halberd, one could inflict great damage on rider and horse. The halberd was an accessible weapon for infantry. Besides the halberd, you can also find other medieval and Renaissance pole weapons in our webshop such as the glaive and the berdiche. These were also relatively cheap and accessible weapons that originated when farmers used their agricultural tools as weapon in war. Heads of halberds and glaives are also available separately from us, so you can make your own Battle Ready pole weapon for reenactment.
