16th century Spanish cabasset, antique finish, 1.6 mm

The helmet is based on an original from the early 16th century. In the first half of the 16th century, the cabasset developed in Spain. Cabassets were mainly produced in Calatayud, a city in Aragón. Whilst morions were similarly employed by foot soldiers, the cabasset was worn by infantry in pike and shot formations. It was popular in 16th-century England and was utilised during the English Civil War.

Several of these helmets were brought to the New World by the Pilgrim Fathers, and one such helmet was discovered on Jamestown Island. Thanks to its brim, the cabasset offers excellent protection against downward strikes and projectiles. The brim is slightly curved upward so as to minimally obstruct the wearer's field of vision.

The helmet has a maximum inner circumference of 70 cm, excluding the lining. It comes complete with a lining and chin strap. The helmet features an antique finish and is patinated, giving it a lifelike appearance as though it has survived the test of time. Should more space be required inside the helmet, the lining can be removed.
