Birka bag

Product description

The bag is a replica of a 9th-century original excavated in the Viking town of Birka. Bags of this kind were worn by Viking and other early medieval people across North and Central Europe.

Crafted by hand from brown leather, the bag measures 18 x 23 cm and may be closed with a strap. It is decorated with motifs in the art style of the Magyars, just as the original was.

The design is inspired by the art style of the Magyars. The Magyars were a nomadic people who invaded Europe during the 9th century AD and settled in Hungary. The eastern Vikings traded with them and presumably adopted their art motifs into their own objects. Birka was a city where Vikings from across Europe traded and exchanged items, such as this fitting.
