Product description
This belt is a replica based on fragments of an original found in grave 501 in the Viking town of Birka in Sweden. The belt fittings are decorated in the Borre style. Belts like this were worn throughout the Viking world. The belt is made of high-quality brown leather and measures 165 cm in length.
The Viking god Odin, known as Wodan in Germanic mythology, was the god of the aristocracy and warrior class. Odin/Wodan is associated with omniscience; he is the master of runes and poetry and possesses knowledge of seidr (magic). While he is known as the god of war and death, his deeper significance lies in guarding cosmic order. According to mythology, Odin/Wodan is the first of kings and ruler over the Einherjar—the heroic fallen warriors of Valhalla with whom he rides out to defeat Ragnarök (the ultimate chaos). Objects depicting Odin/Wodan can be linked to the aristocracy, warrior class—the Viking Jarls and Karls—as well as to magic.
