Product description

This short-sleeved chainmail shirt is suitable for people with medium chest size. It is wide enough to carry a gambeson underneath. The sleeves cover about 2/3 of the arm, the length is about half of the thigh. We recommend this chainmail size for people with a chest circumference of 90cm to 125cm. The chain shirt can be worn on a gambeson and uses its maximum size of 140cm under the arms. The chain mail is completely riveted under the armpit, so that the rings do not give in even with strong movements. So it stays intact for a long time and you have fun with it.

Short chainmail shirts like these were worn by Vikings and others in the early Middle Ages. They remained in use until the 11th century and made a comeback in the second half of the 14th century. From the second half of the 14th century, such short chainmail shirts were called haubergeons, a diminutive of hauberk, or long chainmail shirt. Haubergeons offer optimal protection and more freedom of movement than the hauberk. Therefore, they were also ideal to wear under armor.

Armor parts can be easily attached to the shoulders and arms of the haubergeon with leather laces.

The bare version is not galvanized and is supplied heavily oiled. Please remove the excess oil before first use. Un galvanized chain mail should be treated regularly with maintenance oil such as Ballistol.

Maintenance & care

Remove rust from your chainmail by rubbing the rings together (just like when hand-washing clothes, but without water). The rings will grind together and the rust will come off.

Attaching armour & chainmail
To attach your armour or chainmail securely, you can attach leather laces to your gambeson and fasten these to your armour / chainmail. The armour thus remains in position during a fight.

Packaged with 100% recycled material
When packaging this item, we exclusively use 100% recycled plastic and recycled paper/cardboard from FSC certified forests. We reuse a large part of the material directly without the intervention of a recycling process.
Recycle the material by separating your waste:
1. Cardboard: separate or reuse your paper.
2. Plastic cushions, clothing bags and plastic tape: separate or reuse your plastic. If possible, pierce the cushions with a volume reduction needle.
3. Paper packaging for jewelry and small items: these have a plastic inner layer. Remove these, then separate your paper and plastic.
