Product description

The cuirass is based on the well-known late 14th-century armour from the collection of Churburg Castle. Armour pieces in this style were employed throughout Europe from the late 14th to the early 15th century. This style clearly represents a transition between the early 14th-century coat of plates and the fully developed plate armour.

In the early 14th century, plate armour was developed as an addition and reinforcement to chainmail by the addition of separate plates. With the emergence of the Churburg style, it became the central element of body protection.

The cuirass is constructed from multiple pieces. It was often paired with bascinets, such as the pig-faced bascinet or the klappvisier bascinet, although the kettle hat also remained popular. By this period, full arm and leg armour was already worn, and hourglass gauntlets or half gauntlets (demi-gauntlets) were preferred. A chainmail haubergeon was worn beneath armour of this style. The V-shaped plates on the chest provided additional protection against upward strikes aimed at the face.

The breastplate has a steel thickness of 1.6 mm, making it well-suited to reenactment combat. Its construction also permits it to be readily adjusted to fit your size.
