The coin is a replica, based on originals that were minted during the reign of Alexander the Great, until 323 BC. It is crafted from patinated pewter and has a diameter of 2.5 cm.
Alexander the IIIrd, the Great (336–323 BC) was King of Macedonia until his death and hegemon, and is widely regarded as the greatest conqueror in history. Amongst his many campaigns, Alexander conquered lands as far as India. Following his invasion of Egypt, he was named Pharaoh there. This marked the beginning of a Hellenistic era, during which Egypt, Persia, the Black Sea regions and India were influenced by Greek culture. The life of Alexander the Great has long been a popular motif in art, owing to his enduring popularity and remarkable military successes.
