The hairpin is a replica of a Roman original from the 1st–2nd century AD, excavated in Silchester. Women throughout the Roman Empire wore hairpins of this type.
The depicted hand may be associated with the Roman god Jupiter. Crafted from bronze-coloured bronze, the hairpin measures 14,5 x 1,3 cm.
