This early medieval veil pin is modeled on the Anglo-Saxon Trumpington pin: a filigree gold pin with garnet inlay from the 7th century. It was found, along with a second pin and the famous Trumpington cross, in the grave of a young Anglo-Saxon noblewoman near Cambridge. The originals are on display at the University of Cambridge's Museum of Archeology and Anthropology.

The pin probably served to secure a veil or fine robe of the deceased and, together with the precious gold cross with which she was found, points to an early conversion to Christianity within the Anglo-Saxon nobility.
