Product description
The fibula is crafted after a 6th–7th century Germanic original, which is nowadays part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Fibulae of this type were worn all across Europe between the 5th and 7th centuries, by Germanic peoples including the Alemannic tribes and the Franks, as well as the Merovingians and the Anglo-Saxons. This particular fibula was excavated from an Alemannic female grave. Presumably, such fibulae were worn in sets of two. It is enamelled with red glass.
