This forged bowl lamp with long spout and loose stand is inspired by early medieval examples such as the bowl lamp from Sutton Hoo. Iron lamps are remarkably rare finds from early Anglo-Saxon England: they have so far only been found in the richest grave finds, such as at Broomfield and Prittlewell in Essex and at Sutton Hoo, dating from around the early 7th century.
Thanks to the removable stand, the lamp can be used in two ways: placed loose on the table, or without the stand on a rod inserted into the ground at the desired height. Forged out iron and completely 21 x 14 cm in size.
Beeswax or lamp oil, drawn with a cloth of wood chips, is sufficient as fuel cotton or old burlap. An attractive light source for an early medieval encampment or table.
