Baltic snake fibula, Kernavė, silvered bronze

Product description

This one fibula in the shape of a sun wheel ending in four snake heads is based on a grave find from Kernavė in the Anduliai Kretinga region of Lithuania, dating from the Viking Age of the 9th-10th centuries.

Performed in silvered bronze, with a diameter of 4 cm. There is a sturdy needle on the back.

The spiral shape symbolizes the sun and therefore prosperity and growth, while the snake represents health and rebirth; the four ends refer to the cardinal directions and at the same time to the four seasons. A nice addition to your Viking Age reenactment equipment.
