The tunic is based on original fragments from find B23 in Birka. Birka was an important trading city in (early) medieval Sweden. In one of the graves, for instance, a ring bearing an Arabic inscription was found, demonstrating that Birka maintained trade contacts with the Orient in addition to Scandinavian, Finnish, Western European and Central European trade. The city's trading position declined when a Christian city was founded nearby around 1000.
The Knut tunic is well-suited to re-enacting, Cosplays and LARP from the Great Migration to the High Middle Ages. Crafted from 100% cotton, it features an ornate embroidered edge at the neckline. The tunic may be comfortably worn owing to the split at the front and the extra fabric at the sides, also known as gores, which permit ease of movement for fighting, running, climbing and horseback riding. The neckline features a split, which can be worn open or fastened with a fibula.
