This is a distinctive late variant of the sallet, with a strikingly shaped visor that, due to its round, fluted form, evokes a bellows. This type was introduced in the late 15th century and represents a transitional form between the classical sallet and the later, fully closed helmet. This example is based on a design that was presumably crafted around 1490 by Northern Italian armorers.
The arming cap is hand-worked from 2 mm sheet steel, the hinged visor is executed in 1.6 mm steel. Inside, a high-quality, riveted and adjustable padded textile insert provides wearing comfort, secured with a leather chin strap.
This battle-ready helmet is suitable for show combat and training / sparring within re-enactment - not for LARP - and is available in size M and L.
