This cloak is a replica of the clothing found with the Bocksten Man, dated to the 14th century. In the museum reconstruction, the Bocksten Man wears a cloak with a plain bottom, but this replica features a cloak with slits at the bottom, following 14th-century fashion. Additionally, buttons have been added on the shoulders.
The Bocksten Man is the mummified body of a medieval man found in a bog in Varberg Municipality, Sweden. It is one of the best-preserved discoveries from that period in Europe and is exhibited in the Halland Cultural History Museum. The man was murdered and pinned to the bottom of a lake with a wooden stake, which later turned into a bog. The bog where the body was found is in Rolfstorp, Halland Province, about 24 kilometers east of Varberg on Sweden's west coast, near the region’s main medieval road: the Via Regia. In 2006, his face was reconstructed to show what he may have looked like during his lifetime. This reconstruction is displayed alongside the original skeleton in the museum.
