This umbo is made of brass. It can be used for early medieval shields such as Germanic and late Roman shields. Similar shield finials were also used by the Roman auxiliae from the 1st century AD. The shield knob is also very suitable for making ancient Greek or Etruscan shields or later 15th-16th century Renaissance shields.
