Arrowheads of this type were designed to hold straw or other flammable substances. The arrow was then lit and shot. Burning arrows were employed to set fire to buildings and houses and to destroy siege machines during sieges. Equally, a salvo of a large number of burning arrowheads could cause enormous confusion amongst enemy lines.
This arrowhead has been entirely hand-forged.
