Product description
The fibula is a replica of a 1st century Roman original excavated in South England. It is now held within the collection of the British Museum in London.
The fibula was employed by the Romans (presumably by the Roman legionaries from Gaul). It is clearly crafted in the Celtic La Tène art style. Similar originals have been excavated in Gaul and were worn by the Gauls. The fibula was subsequently adopted by the Romans.
This bronze fibula is shaped like a stylised seahorse. The motifs of this piece of jewellery occur frequently in Celtic earthenware and engravings from the Middle La Tène period.
It measures 5,5 x 5 cm.
