A shoulder piece of this type is also known as a pixane. Pixanes were sewn to the gambeson and were usually worn beneath the suit of armour. As a result, the wearer was also afforded protection on open spots in the suit of armour.
The shoulder piece is constructed from flat rings riveted with wedge rivets and round, butted rings. These are interwoven 4 in 1 and have an inner diameter of 8 mm. It measures 36 x 27 cm and has a neck opening of 15 x 14 cm. It weighs approx. 0.6 kg.
