Product description
Charlemagne was crowned Emperor of the West around the year 800. He reigned over the Frankish empire and expanded its borders. His reign brought a golden age over the west, and he subsequently became a role model for many feudal kings.
The sabre is a replica of the original, which is nowadays exhibited at the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna. The sword originates from Persia, and it remains unknown how it came to be in Europe. It is clear that the sabre was crafted for a king, and this sword was possibly a gift from the Far East. It is evidently a cavalry sabre designed for the Eurasian steppe. The blade is constructed from carbon steel with a hardness of HRC 50–53.
The fuller is inlaid with gold leaf, just as on the original. The grip was originally covered with shagreen and decorated with gold leaf. To reduce costs, this gold leaf decoration has been replaced by brass. The scabbard is also richly decorated with brass. The sabre is well balanced and has a length of 88.90 cm, with a blade of 71 cm, and weighs 0.90 kg.
