Product description
Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, better known as El Cid, was a Castilian nobleman who conquered and controlled Valencia following his exile. El Cid means 'the lord' in a blend of Spanish and Arabic. He carried two swords: Tizona and Colada. El Cid won Colada from the Count of Barcelona and presented it to one of his sons-in-law, though he reclaimed it when the man mistreated his daughter. A sword believed to be Colada is now exhibited at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
This richly decorated version of the Colada has a length of 102 cm. The grip and pommel are finished with brass, whilst the blade is engraved.
The sword is an Oakeshott type XVIIIc.
