This pendant is a detailed replica of a Viking Age Arab dirham coin, modeled after a find from Birka. The coin, like the original, has a small eye to wear as a pendant.

Arabic dirhams were loved by the Vikings for their purity silver and were traded throughout Scandinavia and Europe; they often appear in treasure finds and were regularly converted into pendants, as several finds confirm. The coin itself was minted under the reign of Caliph Al-Walid I (674-715), the sixth caliph of the Umayyad dynasty, and bears Arabic inscriptions with religious texts and mentioning that it was minted in Wasit.
