The dress is based on a sixth-century archaeological excavation of clothing fragments found in a women's grave near present-day Dortmund. Early medieval images in illuminated manuscripts from the eighth and ninth centuries offer a more complete picture of this type of clothing, such as the Stuttgart Psalterium. The dress is particularly well-suited to re-enacting and LARP of the Great Migrations, Merovingians and Franks. Manuscripts show that dresses from this period featured contrasting colours and coloured strips of fabric as decoration. This tunic is a reconstruction of this style.

The dress has three-quarter sleeves and may be worn with a belt. Gores on the sides — triangular pieces of fabric that gave medieval garments a flare — have been incorporated to lend the dress its shape. The back has a button to close the dress.
