Product description
This sallet is inspired by the late medieval helmet form that became one of Europe's most recognizable helmet types in the 15th century. Characteristic are the rounded skull cap and the extended rear section, which give the silhouette its distinctive shape. From Italy, this type of helmet spread to France, England and the Netherlands, and through these contacts eventually reached Germany as well, where regional variants were created at major armor centers such as Milan, Augsburg and Nuremberg.
This helmet is made of 1.6 mm steel, with a curved bottom edge and the extended rear section that together determine the characteristic silhouette. Side strapping gives the helmet an authentic appearance. Inside, a padded fabric inlay provides wearing comfort and proper positioning on the head, and a leather chin strap keeps the helmet securely in place.
Sallets were often worn together with a bevor in those days: open for optimal vision and breathing space, or closed for extra protection of the lower face. This specimen is suitable for re-enactment, living history, collectors and exhibitions.
