Recommended combination
Product description
These spaulders are based on originals used from the 14th century onwards. They can be easily combined with armour pieces in the Churburg style or Avant style, but even in late-Gothic armour, spaulders like these remained commonly used. Spaulders are narrow shoulder pieces that attach to a gambeson, mail hauberk, or gorget. These armour pieces differ from pauldrons, as pauldrons are broader and also provide protection for parts of the armpit.
Armour pieces such as pauldrons were very popular from the second half of the 14th century through the second half of the 16th century. These shoulder pieces may be worn as part of a full suit of armour or individually. They can be fastened to a gambeson or chainmail hauberk using laces.
