This bird fibula is based on a Frankish piece of jewelry from the mid-6th century, from the Merovingian period. The original, gold-plated silver with red garnet inlay, comes from a rich women's grave in Witternesse in Northern France and is part of the collection of the Comtesse de Béhague.

Performed in silvered bronze, with the same dimensions of 3.3 x 1.8 cm as the original. On the back there is a sturdy needle with spiral construction.

Fibula's These were considered a status symbol among Frankish women of prestige and were usually worn as a pair, together with a second pair of fibula for the undergarment - the so-called Merovingian four-fibula dress. A nice addition to your equipment for reenactment from the early Middle Ages.
