The leg armour is based on originals from the 15th century. Originals may be seen in, for example, the Royal Armouries in Leeds, and in Italian 15th-century paintings. A similar leg armour is depicted, for example, in the Montefeltro altarpiece by Piero della Francesca, where they are worn by the kneeling condottiere Federico da Montefeltro. The painted leg armour was simply a little more luxurious. This replica leg armour protects the upper leg, lower leg, and knees. Strong leather straps at the back of the armour permit secure fastening. The top is fitted with white laces for fastening to the belt, gambeson, or chestplate. The leg armour may therefore be worn comfortably for hours whilst remaining securely fastened. The back of the knee is well protected by the authentic historical roundels. This armour is well-suited to combining with other armour pieces and is particularly fitting for late medieval costumes.
