Product description
These gallnuts are dried and may be employed directly. The crushed gallnuts are well-suited to making ink. This technique was already in use far before our era and even until the 17th century.
Place old screws or nails in a bowl with vinegar or another sour liquid. Leave it to rest for 3–4 days, until it bubbles less. By pouring the mix through a coffee filter, liquid iron sulphate will be obtained. Cook 80 grams of gallnuts in 500 ml water. Utilise gum arabic to bind the sulphate and the gallnut juice. Please note: do not use too much iron sulphate, as ink which is too sour will bite through the parchment! The ink will become darker once it has been exposed to oxygen for a longer period of time.
