Product description
This colourful bead necklace with a silver Mjölnir pendant is more than jewellery: in Viking times, necklaces like this were equally a status symbol and spiritual object as ornamentation.
The glass beads are inspired by archaeological finds from Hedeby, one of the most important trading settlements of the Viking Age, where more than 7,000 beads and bead fragments in various colours, shapes and patterns were excavated. Research into Viking necklaces shows that they could bear both pagan and Christian symbolism and were often associated with ritual specialists such as the vǫlur, who may have used them in their seiðr magic, think also of stories such as that of the Brísingamen necklace.
The pendant of genuine 925 silver, decorated with fine Viking knots, depicts Mjölnir, the mighty hammer of Thor. According to Norse mythology, the hammer was forged from Uru ore by the dwarves Sindri and Brokkr, and it has the special property of never missing its target and always returning to the hand of the thrower, a weapon that only Thor himself can wield.
