The Gothic lantern is a replica of an original excavated in Medieval London. Lanterns were a primary source of light in the medieval home or castle, shielding open fires from draughts. Alongside their practical purposes, such a fine lantern also served a decorative function within the household. The lantern is adorned with Gothic trefoils and features a horn door.
