Product description
The Greek helmet is a replica of a 4th-century original found in the Tigris, Iraq. The original is currently on display at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England, and it is believed to have belonged to a cavalryman from Alexander the Great's Macedonian army. The shape of this helmet derives from the Greek region of Boeotia. Such helmets were constructed from a single piece of bronze, and the model is based on a traditional felt hat worn in this region — the petasos. Cavalrymen and hoplites in particular favoured helmets of this type, owing to the excellent protection afforded to the face and neck, whilst not impeding sight or hearing. The helmet is supplied with a thick cotton cap, which improves wearing comfort. It is well-suited to collectors and re-enactors of the Greek armies and the Roman Republican armies of Classical Antiquity.
