Product description
The Grosses Messer, or large knife, was used primarily in Germany between the 14th and 16th centuries. As it was a relatively inexpensive sword, it was wielded mostly by people from the lower social classes, who also employed it in their daily lives.
According to the Elmslie typology, this messer may be classified as a Type 4b. Weapons of this type were used principally during the late 15th to early 16th century.
The slightly curved blade is hand-forged from carbon steel, whilst the hilt is crafted from wood. The Grosses Messer measures 101 cm in total length, with a blade length of 75 cm and a maximum width of 4.3 cm. Including the supplied scabbard, it weighs approximately 1.6 kg. The blade is constructed from 9260 carbon steel.
