Product description
The belt fitting is crafted after a historical original excavated in the Viking trading town of Birka in Sweden. It is inspired by the art style of the Magyars. The fitting may be employed for decorating belt straps or leather bags. It measures 3 x 2.8 cm and is bronze coloured.
The Magyars were a nomadic people who invaded Europe during the 9th century AD and settled in Hungary. The eastern Vikings traded amongst them and presumably utilised their art motifs in their own objects. Birka was a city where Vikings from across Europe traded and exchanged items, such as this fitting.
