Inspired by the mediaeval gugel hood style from Germany, the hood is crafted from herring-bone pattern wool with polyester light and dark brown fur trim. It sits well on top of another garment, as such hoods were normally worn during the Middle Ages. Typically, this would have been a shirt or a tunic, to which the hood was added as extra protection from the weather — particularly in winter, when the fur trim proved especially useful. It ties together at the neck with a leather cord, permitting the wearer to adjust it for fit.
