Horns mok with Valknut, wood bottom

This mok is hand-made from polished beef horn and decorated with an engraved valknut, the 'sign of the fallen' from Norse mythology.

The name valknut is a modern compound of the Old Norse words valr (fallen warrior) and knut (knot), and the symbol consists of three interlocked triangles, sometimes drawn as one unbroken line, sometimes as three separate connected rings. It has been found on, among others, the Oseberg ship burial, Gotlandic picture stones and the Anglo-Saxon Nene River Ring, consistently in the vicinity of Odin or symbols of death. According to researcher Hilda Ellis Davidson, it refers to Odin's ability to tie and untie mental bonds: he could bind a warrior's heart with fear, but also loosen bonds and thus awaken the fury of the berserker or the inspiration of the skald.

The mok itself has a wood bottom and is finished on the inside with a food-safe lacquer, so you can safely drink beer or mead from it. Wash it before and after use with lukewarm water and a soft cloth; the dishwasher is not suitable.
