The lucet is based on a 9th-century original. Lucets were used from prehistoric times until well into the 15th century. Weaving with a lucet is easy and quick to learn. The thread need not be cut to a certain length, which is particularly practical, as a cord of any length may be produced without determining the size in advance. Different techniques and variations may also be employed to achieve cords in a variety of colours and styles.
