This large round pendant is based on the Merovingian jewelry disk of Limons, a Frankish masterpiece made of solid gold that dates between the last quarter of the 6th and the first quarter of the 7th century. The original is in the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris.

The style of the disc is known as Animal Style II, a widespread Germanic art form of that period. The obverse depicts the face of Christ within a cross, surrounded by three wild boars, with the Christogram Chi-Rho and the letters Alpha and Omega as a reference to the same Christian ideas. The red inlay is from this red glass, instead of the genuine cloisonné enamel of the original.
