Product description
This sixpence bears an inscription that refers to Charles I's conviction that he was accountable only to God. The obverse shows his bust, the reverse a shield with the royal weapon. It was precisely this belief in the divine right of kings that brought him into a protracted conflict with parliament.
That struggle culminated in the English Civil War between the parliamentary Roundheads and the royalist Cavaliers. Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army ultimately defeated Charles, and in 1649 the king was executed. This replica is cast directly from an original and made in lead-free tin.
A significant coins for collectors and for those who bring the early modern period to life.
