Langobardic S fibula, silvered bronze

Product description

This S-shaped bird fibula is based on a Langobardic find from the late 5th-6th century, from the Merovingian period. The original was made of gilded silver with red garnet inlay in cloisonné technique; our version uses red glass flux for this purpose.

Executed in silvered bronze, with dimensions of 3.7 x 3.2 cm. On the back side there is a sturdy needle with spiral construction.

S-shaped bird fibulae with red inlay were widespread in the early Middle Ages among the Langobards, but also among Franks, Bavarians and Alemanni, where two specimens worn one above the other closed the undergarment of women's dress. A fine addition to your equipment for re-enactment from the early Middle Ages.
