For many centuries the bonnet was the common headgear worn by men, women and children. Beggars wore it to protect themselves from vermin, and kings wore it beneath their crowns. Crafted from fine sheepskin, it absorbs sweat under a helmet. It protects against the sun and is pleasantly cool and airy. The "Martinus" bonnet has a generous cut and may be fastened with two ties under the chin. Leather is a natural product and the effect of dye on the material can differ.
