Product description
The lorica segmentata was worn from the 2nd century AD by Roman legionaries. This type of armour plate consisted of iron strips that were attached to the inner side on a leather strap. The reconstruction is of a lorica segmentata from the late 1st century AD that was found in Newstead, Scotland. The main difference between this type and its predecessors is that the Newstead lorica consisted of fewer — but bigger — plates.
The reconstruction is well-suited to a chest circumference of up to 112 cm, including an optional gambeson (subarmalis). Constructed from 1.3 mm thick steel and ornamented with brass, it weighs approximately 9.2 kg.
