Medieval knight shield

The knight's shield, or heater shield, emerged around the end of the 12th century from the Norman kite shield. Heater shields owe their name to Victorian historians, who associated the shape of this shield with a Victorian iron. These shields were considerably smaller than the earlier Norman kite shields; they offered less protection to the left leg but were much more manoeuvrable. In the early 13th century, heater shields were employed alongside the large Norman kite shields. Later, only heater shields and bucklers were utilised. These shields were used on the battlefield until the 14th century and continued to be used afterwards for tournament purposes.

The shield is beaten with steel for security. It has a height of 64 cm, its width is 49 cm and it has a weight of 2,2 kg.
