The chestplate is based on fifteenth-century historical originals depicted in paintings and murals by Italian masters, such as Piero della Francesca, who portrayed a high quantity of similar armour pieces. Chestplates of this type were worn by infantrymen from the second half of the fifteenth century until the sixteenth century. This style of armour was crafted in Italy and was also sold to other European countries. Typical of the Milanese style is the overlapping and bevelled plate over the chest, which has been designed to deflect attacks. The cuirass protects the chest and abdomen. It is fitted with leather straps to adjust it to size and different suspensions for other armour pieces. It is supplied complete with a fully compatible backplate.
